Project Timelines and Challenges

The homeowner was preparing to relocate to another country and wanted to update the home with modern flooring and a matching staircase before listing the property for sale.

The other challenge was coordinating the flooring and staircase renovation with the other trade. In this case, it is painters who were also painting kitchen cabinet and interior walls at the same time. Therefore, proper scheduling and communication were required. We had several meetings with homeowner and the painters before project started to ensured both painters and us could work efficiently without delays or fighting for workspace.

Another key factor was the curved staircase. Due to its curved shape of stair treads, there is no pre-made wood treads on the market. We accurately measure them and sent to manufacturers to custom made the stair steps prior to the project started to avoid manufacturers' lead time.

We started with flooring installation on the second floor so that the painter could paint the kitchen cabinet on the main floor. After we both finish the installation and painting, we switched the floors so that they could start interior painting and we could continue with flooring installation. We left the staircase renovation at the last to avoid painter's foot traffic.

The entire project was completed within two weeks. It met the homeowner’s strict timeline. Completing the renovation on time was critical to either preparing the home for sale or for moving in after purchase.

Results

The new hardwood flooring and staircase we installed improved both the appearance and functionality of the space.
